This weekend we had a long awaited break at the Hospice. We had planned to make it into Christina's birthday treat. No way can we have a party with the way Jonathan is at the moment so we promised her good things whilst Jonathan Rosie and Eve were cared for at the hospice.
Christina and Daddy share a birthday and we have in the past had some lovely parties, friends and family joinging us for celebration. Last year we had the joy and sadness of a visit from my Mum and Dad. Arriving on the birthday and leaving on the Saturday we had time of closeness and goodbyes. Today marks a year since they went back and we havent seen them since. We do speak on the phone and I know they try to keep up with our life by reading the blog but too many miles seperate us and we know there is little chance we will meet again in this world.
So this weekend was Christina's birthday treat. We were planningon arriving at the Hospice as close to two o'clock as possible to be able to get the paperwork over with and then get out! Huh! Traffic!
Leaving home at 11.30 we planned to pick Joshua and Christina up form holiday club at Church and then head straight off. The Bus had a low tyre so had to plan in a stop at the garage, noone had eaten so McDonald's opposite the garage seemed a good plan.
Arrived at Holiday Club at 12 O'clock and Joshua and Christina were ready and waiting...nothing else went quite to plan! The Air at the garage wasnt working, McDonalds had a queue a mile long, the traffic between Long Sutton and Boston was diabolical, we missed the air pump at the second garage and had to go out round the roundabout, and back in again. Then the traffic crossing Boston was diabolical even for Boston on a Friday Lunch Time. Between Boston and Grimsby I think we got behind every tractor in lincolnshire....we arrived at Hospice at just after 3pm!
Never mind, the booking in went smoothly everyone was happy and we were off out to Cleethorpes before half four, we planned on the cinima and the film didnt start till 6 so we had plenty of time to stretch out legs around the stores nearby, even managing to find school shoes for Joshua and school coats for Joshua and Christina. We also bought sweets and then had a drink before heading into the cinema. Toy Story 3 in 3 D was fantastic! really enjoyed it and were ready to head back to the Hospice having acomplished a good evening out with J and C!
A reasonable nights sleep and a dry sunny morning was a good start for our planned day at the Pleasure Island theme park. Breakfast of bacon Sandwhiches and a quick check on the three downstairs and then we headed off.
We had a great time. Joshua and Christina heading off to all the white knuckle rides and David taking photos, I took the responsibility of holding the bags and belongings very seriously and gave up all opportunity to ride the rides!
Unfortunately whilst waiting at the only wet ride, and the only ride with any length of queue, the heavens opened and I swear I was wetter than Joshua and Christina! It became very cold from then on! We sheltered for a while under some trees, then headed off to watch the Massai warriors! Amazing agilityand timing. Dad was brave enough after that to take Joshua and Christina on the Ghost train and even after that went on the Shells, a kind of variation on the old fashion Waltzers.
The battery on my power chair was running low by this time and so I sought warmth and rest in the Food Court whilst they crammed in a couple more rides and then we headed back. Jonathan Rosie and Eve seemed to have had a good day and we were just in time to see the girls in the Jacuzzi.
We ended our day with a restful time watching DVDs and an earlyish night.
Sunday dawned wet and windy and so we just chilled out around the hospice, Rosie and Eve enjoying stories and toys Jonathan playing Drums and snooker and on the PS2.
All too soon it was time for us to pack and head back home. A good time ending far too soon. The hospice is great and a wonderful refuge, if only they had the money to open full time and had more nights to offer.
Sigh!
