The Eyes Have It!

Yesterday Jonathan had an appointment at the eye clinic of our local hospital. I do believe there is a tradition for Eye Clinic to run late...no matter where we are we always end up spending hours on an Eye Clinic Appointment, yesterday was no different...having left hom at 8.15 to take Joshua and Christina to School, on to another important job in Boston and then on to the hospital in time for a coffee before the appointment. We were evenetually called from the main waiting area at 11 am a little while after our appointment time, however that is only to be called to sit around the corridor in the Eye Clinic's own area. At 11.45 Jonathan was called..oh but only for the eye drops which of course take half an hour to work, So at 1230 we eventualy get in to see the Opthalmologist. He is a pleasant man but aman of few words...surprisingly haveing spent a long while examning Jonathan's eyes and testing the refraction he rolled back his chair an looked up and started talking.

As we know Jonathan's left eye has some scarring which as the eye is so stretched is getting worse and affecting more and more of his vision, to the extent where his eye is switching off so as not to confuse his visual signals...he is solely using his right eye. They want to keep the prescription for that lens as acurate as they can in case he loses anymore of the vision in his right eye.

His right eye has lost acuity, there are spots of cataract over the right eye lens, not a true cataract that they can remove but just white thickening causing spots in his vision...I wonder if that explains why he is rarely aware when his glasses are dirty? The prescription for that lens needs increasing and he is now elligible for registration as Severely Visually Impaired.

Oh Woopee Jonathan as another certificate for his wall!

As we left the clinic at 1pm we ddcided it was as well to go have lunch and digest all this news, also to ring school to see how Eve was we had received a couple of calls in concern about her at school. She had scared the transport escort with HR of 190 and SATs droppin to mid 80s, at school she was doing similar and they were not sure about turning up the O2...it is in the care plan please read the care plan! Anyway we had ot heard since 10.30 so felt we should ring in and check...if they were considering calling an ambulance I really did not want to be half way home before they told me!

They were however happy to cope and Eve was not really distressed so hopefully we could wait at home for her to arrive!
always changing the goalposts, chalenging the normal and keping us on our toes, Eve arrived home happy and wheezy and tired!
Jonathan oblivious to the new situation...of course it had crept slowly on him and he adjusts as it goes along.

Saturday saw us heading off to Peterborough to te Opticians, Christina had had new glasses in July but had never felt they were right, the lady had said to perservere and se if she got used to them but she gave up due to bad headaches and fuzy vision but we had not had an opportunity to go back. So we all went with the intention of a it of a wander round Peterborough once the optician bit was done. Hah!

After over an hour and a half in one shop they had phoned several supliers and made numerous phone calls to colleagues around the country trying to find out what help could be claimed and what lenses could be sourced etc etc..the first quote they came back with was £500+ for each pair of glasses and he needed a plain pair and a tinted pair as he was now very light sensetive, th look of shock/horror on my face must have sent her into a spin to try and find a cheaper option and she came back a little while later with £332 each pair...still too much to just say OK go ahead! I decided to go ask for a second oppoinion. Thankfully th lady was not upst with me and agreed it was a riddiculous amount of money to be spending knowing e would be looking to spend it again in 6months a to a year time.

So still waiting for Christina to be called for her test I sent Joshua Jonathan Iris and Rosie off to find SpecSavers and start looking for frames and start the discussions about lens etc. Meanwhile the Optometrist quickly discovered the problem with Christina's glasses, the lens had been put in the wrong way round, right eye in left and left lens in right etc ! They agreed to put it all right free of charge and she had to choose a new frame to replace the broken one. All sorted and we headed out to meet the others.

Two and a half hours later we emerged having paid just £5 for the two sets of glasses thinned to thinnest thickness and one pair tinted ! Worth the walk then!

Arriving home at 4.30pm I was shattered, Rosie neded a bath and everyone needed the loo! Thankfully Iris stayed to see it all through with me and Now the house is slowly quietening to the evening hum.
Eve has been needing quit a bit of suction and has needed 2ltrs of O2 but is not miserable with it, She has covered herself, her wheelchair the mat on the floor and most of me with a lovely green aromatic POOH! Now laying on te floor chatting to the Sesame Street gang who occasionally sing back to her if she manages to hit the right bit of the toy! She is happy.

Meanwhile I am still coughing like crazy, aching like I have been doing hard labour, so tired I am not sure which way is up. I think a month of rolling from one infection to another an dmultiple antibiotics, the episode of stomach problems last week and now the cough that refuses to ease has really taken it's toll on my underlying health issues, I am resorting to the splint on my wrist as I am unable to use it at all without, my feet are not willing to hold my weight and my sholders are protesting. Otherwise all is fantstic Chez Nous! Lol

Joshua is off to France on Friday, I have to find time to get him some Euros by then! I also have to hand his care fully over to God it is the first time any of them have been away from home not with family or very close friends it is a big wrench.

I think maybe I have waffled enough.
Nothing major, all probably fairly trivial in the scheme of things.
So many more urgent prayer needs...but would appreciate a few if you have the time.
Much love

Why is it your normal kind of day sounds so exhausting lol. Im glad you managed to get some glasses, i cant believe Christinas had been put in the wrong way, how awlful for her. Kennedy went to France in august it was the first time anyone of the girls had been so far away. I felt sick to my stomach. I told her to use her mobile anytime she needed me and to have fun. She loved it and came back a lot more grown up. She did phone me and that made me happy. But its like you say we have to hand them over to God and pray that they are safe. Not an easy thing to do. Please try and take care of yourself, love as always xxx
