Grandparents
Heidi, from God's Grace in Practice has chalenged us to Blog about Grandparentsand our children.I have Grand Parents! lolmy parents have always supported us in everything we have done. Have always offered support, guidance, advice andyet have always allowed usthe space to grow, to find our on way, to make mistakes and still be there to pick up the pieces.I know my parents had reservations about my decsion to commit to marriage...they never actually voiced their concern but I was young, David was considerably older and we were certainly not financially secure. Yet they must also have looked back into their past and known there was similarity...apart from the age difference there was much similarity...and yet we were also very different. However far from discourage us they supported our every move, backed our every decision and were there to support us in the hard times! Hard times there were/are! Within one week of our marriage David was made redundant! a difficulty no one could have foreseen! Mum and Dad were there to comfort, guide, support, and aid the search for work. Dad was working in Middlesex and gave us lifts across the country in the search for work. They had practical work that needed doing on their house and were happy to pay David a little to help them out!
and of course they prayed!
Being the 5th child of my parents and also having a younger brother one problem we encountered we felt Mum and Dad were not able to understand was our infertility! They listened, they supported,
and of course they prayed!
David eventually found work, and life settled down...Mum and Dad moved away from our home town and we also looked for a house nearer David's work. There were concerns we discussed with Mum and Dad.
and Of course they prayed!
Our infertility was a problem, we were considering other options, fostering, adoption, we even considered doing charitable work in the third world with Christian Aid, or Save The Children. Mum and Dad were there, with their thoughts, ideas, and love.
and of course they prayed!
Life moved on, Mum and Dad moved again and this time we moved to be nearer them. David found work wih their guidance and they also offered me work in their nursing home...suporting, guiding...
and of course they prayed!
Our search fo a family led us into the adoption circle...it was a dificult road and every step they trod along with us....they loved us, they wiped our tears, they offered a listening ear and a hug.
and of course they prayed.
A child found, we met , we loved, we also met and loved his foster carers. Mum came to meet him and them and she too loved.
and of course they prayed.
This adoption was not to be and we fell far and hard
and still they prayed!
Several years later and a move to Lancashire and we did adopt....a wonderful little boy, 3yrs 4 months old when he came to us, profoundly handicapped with cerebral palsy...but with an amazing smile that captured the hearts of everyone....Mum and Dad rejoiced along with us. They visited us and we them and then God took him home.
and Mum and Dad cried and prayed and prayed and cried and hugged us and cried with us and prayed some more!
6 months later after a lifetime of missing Luke Jonathan came to us. Dad in particular was pleased with his extra Chromosome.
and they prayed!
Jonathan was suddenly desperately ill
and they prayed...and they visited, and they prayed somemore. They came to our cardiac appointment and they prayed....they took us home and they prayed with us and for us.
Mum came to the hospital and was physically with us and prayed...Dad stayed at home and prayed.
God over ruled and we rejoiced. Jonathan lived!
and they prayed!
Rosie came to us and they prayed
Life with Rosie was always going to be difficult, health issues were profound...near death episodes were and are frequent.
and they pray.
Life with Rosie is often fun....and they visit and they enjoy....she wears them out!
and they pray!
Rosie is kettle of fish of her own type. A barrow load of monkeys with the strength of ten apes. and the fun of a chimpanzee.
and they pray!
Now we face another array of issues with Eve...Mum and Dad were the only persons in our family to know Eve was joining us! They were indeed referees for the adoption.
and they prayed!
Eve faces unknown health battles and still we know we can rely on prayer
because Grandma and Grandad pray!
My Mum and Dad live a long way away. We do not get to see them often....we know though without a doubt
THEY PRAY!
Be anxious in nothing but i everything with prayer and suplication make your requests known to God. And the peace of God that passeth all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus!

What a story! They sound wonderful. So understanding even when they don't understand. My good friend is going through terrible infertility right now and it is impossible to understand I think, unless you've been there.
I think our churches must have had the same liturgy today. My pastor's sermon was similar. She said that we need to look at that passage with the fact that WE are the ones that could be approached in mind. And that we need to constantly be like Jesus and dine with the tax collectors, etc. I have to say I never looked at it that way before.
Beautiful post Tina! Your kids have some very special grandparents.
